UMB Bank Legal Counsel - Real Estate in Kansas City, Missouri

UMB’s Corporate Legal department serves many lines of business throughout our footprint by providing legal education, counsel and advice.  They facilitate the needs of their clients (UMB Financial Corporation, its subsidiaries and its shareholders) through subject matter expertise, as well as relationships with outside counsel, where necessary.

The Legal Counsel at UMB, works hand in hand with line of business leaders to research and advise on legal issues; evaluate, educate clients regarding, and help to minimize risk; review, negotiate and draft agreements; participate in projects and process improvements; prepare and distribute regular status reports; summarize trends and issues.

How you’ll spend your time:

  • Collaborate with different lines of businesses and corporate support functions to ensure that operations and strategies are managed in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Will be a trusted advisor to senior leaders and be the primary consultant with clients on legal issues.

  • Monitor and analyze evolving legal requirements and proposed regulations/legislation in assigned practice areas and advises senior management of potential risks.

  • Manages outside counsel on commercial and business litigation matters and acts as a liaison between senior leaders and outside counsel.

  • Advises and counsels multiple lines of business on key legal issues related to investment and owner-occupied commercial real estate lending matters.

  • Assist with all aspects of commercial real estate loan portfolio management, review loan documentation to ensure covenant compliance, review documentation related to lender consent items, prepare loan modification documentation as needed.

  • Limited review and analysis of title insurance commitments, including related exception documents; identify and recommend title endorsements and negotiate removal of exception items.

  • Provide advice regarding impact of title deficiencies identified by outside counsel during diligence items.

  • Work with outside counsel to negotiate loan documentation and advise clients regarding risk items which arise during due diligence period.

  • Draft and negotiate loan participation documentation.

  • Review and approve legal billing submitted by outside counsel, work with line of business to ensure customer reimbursement.

We’re excited to talk with you if you have:

  • JD and license to practice law

  • 4 years of commercial real estate lending experience

Bonus points if you have:

  • 6 or more years of commercial real estate lending experience

Compensation Range:

Minimum: $99,750.00 - Maximum: $257,250.00

The posted compensation range on this listing represents UMB’s standard for this role, but the actual compensation may vary by geographic location, experience level, and other job-related factors.
